The launch of the EUDI Wallet (European Digital Identity Wallet) marks the biggest paradigm shift in the history of digital identity. While previous solutions such as ID Austria or the German online ID card primarily served as digital replacements for physical IDs, the EUDI Wallet is a personal, highly secure digital vault on a smartphone that goes far beyond simply presenting a document: It enables the legally compliant, private, and cross-border sharing of verified credentials—from educational qualifications to authorization certificates. While eIDAS 1.0 primarily addressed the public sector, eIDAS 2.0 now requires numerous private-sector industries—from banks and insurance companies to energy providers—to accept the EUDI Wallet as a means of identification by 2027. This makes the wallet a universal key to digital services and replaces the previous siloed national eID solutions—such as the German ID card with online functionality or ID Austria—with a harmonized European standard.
In this session, Martina Knierim (PwC Germany) and Dr. Clemens Brunner (sproof) bridge the gap between regulatory strategy and technical reality. We’ll explore how the shift toward decentralized models is replacing the government as a “mediator” and what enormous economic potential arises from optimized, cross-border processes and entirely new use cases. The goal of this webinar is to provide you with a solid understanding of the strategic areas of focus that will enable your company to leverage digital transformation as a competitive advantage.
What you’ll take away from this:
• The new standard for digital identity: Why the EUDI Wallet is more than just a “digital ID.” We discuss the shift from rigid, government-run portals to a flexible solution that allows users to manage their identity directly on their smartphones and decide for themselves who can see which data.
• Factors Contributing to Adoption: Insights into the global eID landscape and the question of why some systems become part of people’s daily lives while others do not. We analyze how ease of use (user experience) and genuine trust lay the foundation for widespread adoption.
• Bridging the Gap Between Today and Tomorrow: How companies can navigate the transition from proven solutions—such as ID Austria—to the new world of European digital wallets without risking technical disruptions. We’ll show how test environments (sandboxes) can help eliminate uncertainties early on.
• The 2027 regulatory deadline: An overview of the timelines for companies in the finance, insurance, energy, critical infrastructure, and healthcare sectors. We discuss the strategic decision of whether companies should develop their own solutions or rely on specialized partners to be ready in time.
• Data Protection as a Convenience Feature: A Deep Dive into the Principle of Selective Data Sharing. How we can prove online in the future that we are of legal age or have a specific authorization without having to reveal our entire identity.
• Connectivity and ROI for Business: How the wallet goes beyond mere identity verification to radically accelerate complex approval processes and legally binding signatures between organizations. We highlight the direct return on investment: By reducing process interruptions, eliminating manual verification steps, and opening up the entire EU single market, the EUDI Wallet becomes a highly efficient growth driver for modern businesses.
